20th July 2019 Meeting Chairmans Address at Anarita -Club Venue
Good afternoon everyone. This is an important year for this club and I want to make sure we all have the chance to enjoy the events that are planned.
I want to inform you of the progress your committee has made regarding the events ahead. As you should be aware,we are hosting here in Cyprus the International Federation of Antique Vehicles Annual General Meeting at the San Rafael Hotel in Limassol. The member clubs, of which we are one, represent more than 1.5 million enthusiasts in 64 countries. They work hard for the benefit of vehicle owners, enthusiasts and the general public. These are the people who negotiate and try to educate the politicians so that our motoring heritage is not lost for future generations. I think this is important and I hope you do too The AGM is a very big undertaking. More than 200 delegates and members of their families are coming to Cyprus. We are unlikely to see this again in Cyprus, so it is our one and only opportunity to participate and enjoy it. On Saturday the 9th November we intend to organise a static car show here in Paphos. The idea is to move our Classic breakfast to this date (from 2nd Nov) and then travel in a convoy to a destination to be arranged. After the show those who want to participate in the Retro Party to which we have been invited and which will be held at the Nicosia Motorcycle Museum can travel together to Nicosia. This party has been organised by the National Classic Car Club. Those who wish to participate can make their way to this event, those not wishing to participate can do their own thing. As this is our 15th anniversary if we can find some kind local sponsors, we hope to dress the cars up and involve the local media and make a splash. If you can help with a local sponsor, please do. It does not have to be mega money we just want to dress the cars up andpossibly provide some memorabilia for the members. To attend the party, you do not need a classic car it is open to all our members. Next day the 10th November, there will be a static car display from 12noon at the Mall in Nicosia. Both the above mentioned events will have National media coverage, so it is a great chance to show off your beautiful cars. If you wish you can also dress in period costume which will be GREAT. The cars will be arranged by make and year. There is a limit of 150 cars so if you want to participate with your vehicle let us know ASAP otherwise there may be no space left. Again, if you do nothave a classic car it is a great opportunity to come along and meet your friends and soak up the atmosphere. We are looking at the possibility of booking some rooms at a hotel for the 9th and 10th if any of you want to make a weekend of it and party with us. As a separate matter you have all have the information regarding the National Event and we still need to help with the sponsorship of this. If anyone can help the information has been sent to you by Wendy and I and the team can answer any queries. There are forms passing round which we would like you to fill in so we can get an idea what participation we can expect. In addition to this your committee wants to organise an anniversary party in September/ October We envisage a casual affair with music and even dancing if you are energetic. Please come forward with suggestions for a venue for this.

The Cyprus Federation of Classic Vehicles (OKAK - www.okak.org.cy) is the par excellence body representing the classic vehicles movement in Cyprus. The Federation is a member of the World Federation of Classic Vehicles (FIVA - www.fiva.org) and at this international body, it represents Cyprus as "ANF Member Organization", that is, as National Representative of our country. As such, it issues, with the permission of the World Federation, the FIVA Certificates of Classic Vehicles, which the Government of the Republic of Cyprus recognizes to classify a vehicle in the category of "classic", thus allowing the corresponding benefits provided by the relevant legislation. The goal of our Federation is to continually promote in many ways the idea of protecting, restoring and using old vehicles. The Federation consists of seven (7) Classic Vehicle Clubs, operating on a Pancyprian basis, with members exceeding five thousand owners. After many efforts, OKAK has succeeded in hosting and organizing the Annual General Assembly of the World Federation for 2019 in Cyprus. The hosting of an event like this is an honor for our country and will take place from the 13 to the 16 of November 2019. We would like to inform you that to support the FIVA AGM there will be country-wide events with Classic Vehicles organized by the (7) Club members of OKAK, in collaboration with other Classic Vehicle Clubs who are not Members of the Federation. The main event will be held in Nicosia at the Mall of Cyprus, on Sunday, November 10. Classic vehicles will start separately from four major cities of the island, Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaka and Paphos, and will arrive at the common meeting place, where they will be parked based on the date of manufacture, the country of origin and the manufacturer, all of this as part of a special and unique Classic Vehicle Exhibition. In the same area, we will have various other entertaining events open to the public. The arrival of the vehicles from each city is expected to be completed by midday, so departure times from the different city locations will be different. At the starting points of each city, vehicles are expected to gather at least 2 hours in advance, so as to give the opportunity to host events with the participation of local VIPs such as the City Mayor and others. Start locations will be in central prominent areas such as “Eleftherias Square” in Nicosia,”Enaerios” Parking in Limassol, “Europe” / “Phinikoudes Square” in Larnaka, etc. The final decisions for the sites will be taken in the immediate future. In addition to the main event at The Mall of Cyprus, other actions will be organized, either before or during the event. The main purpose of these events will be the support the main event as well as to promote awareness of the General Assembly of the World Federation.
